Kissing Circles

Tangent circles (or kissing circles) - circles that touch at exactly one point - offer a playful and intuitive entry into geometry. Yet some of the questions they raise are deep and complex, dating back to Apollonius of Perga in the third century BC, and have captivated mathematicians for centuries.

This workshop introduces participants to the world of tangent circles through hands-on drawing and visual exploration. Using paper, ruler, and compass, participants will experiment with geometric constructions, create balanced circular arrangements, and design mandala-inspired patterns that blend geometry with artistic creativity. Building on these explorations, we will also examine famous problems in the field, such as the Problem of Apollonius.
