The Art of Counting

The mathematics of counting falls within combinatorics, a fundamental discipline with important applications in statistics and computer science.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will dive into the playful world of combinatorics, the mathematics of possibilities, patterns, and clever counting. How many different colorful LEGO towers can you build? How likely are you to win the lottery? In how many ways can you arrange, choose, or combine things? Through games, puzzles, and visual challenges, participants will explore these questions and discover the mathematics behind permutations, combinations, and probability. Along the way, we will uncover surprising patterns, including Pascal's Triangle, an amazing infinite number pattern that appears in counting, probability, algebra, and even nature.
